WOAH!!!
Being that this is the only show that I regularly attend each year, and being that it only happens once a year, I keep forgetting what a fantastic show the Emerald City ComiCon really is! I mean, I always remember the fun I had, the fans, my fellow artists, and teh entire convention experience from year to year without too much hassle, but the whole experience of actually being here seems to escape me. As I sit here in my hotel room on the 15th floor of the Red Lion in downtown Seattle looking out at THIS VIEW I can't hellp but take it all in and reflect a little about the splendor of it all.
This year I finally had some real money to put into the show and I did just that. The first collected book of Oh Brother! web comics is on the table and seems to be selling well, I've created a great many sketch card and those little buggers are selling like mad. Hard to keep up with demand (which is great) but I'm doing ok. I've a catalogue of art that can be set onto many a wonderful thing (hats, mugs, t-shirts, etc) and that seems to be getting some attention too. Thanks so much to all who have purchased so far, you're keeping food on my table.
More than just the look of my booth and the money I'm making are the friends I have here, many of whom I don't really see or stay in contact with but once a year at this show. Some of them are good friends, some great, and some are people I admire and desire a friendship with, People like Scott Kurtz, Chris Giarrusso, Dave Kellett and more who I look up to for many reasons and are really very cool to me when we see one another at the show. It's not like I get to invite them to dinner at my place or anything (though that would be the best thing ever) but we've a sort of professional friendship that makes me very happy all the same.
Highlights from yesterday:
Got to spend a great deal of time talking with Ms. Limelight, one of the stars of seeson two of Stan Lee's "Who wants to be a superhero" tv series. She's actually a really great gal when you get to spend some time with her and I got this truly fantastic pic out of the deal. Talking of which, the Defuser, winner of the afore mentioned show, took the time to step away from his table and share a little time with me as well. Got this great pic of him in front of my table at the show which is simply stellar! Everyone I've ever met from that show has been so very cool and that's just the best thing in the world. Fat Mama is here as well but I've not had the chance to say hi. I'll try today.
Got my hands on one of 500 exclusive covers for the cominc Wonderland #0. I really don't know anything about this book but I'm kinda blown away by the cover art and I'm happy to have it in my collection. I'll let you know more about it when I read it.
Lots of great people in costume came for the costume contest being held yesterday and many of 'em happend by my table so I was able to take some fun pics. My absolute favortie was a visit from Magnito. THIIS dude not only did a stellar job on the costume, he also got the character down pat in voice and movement. Not only that! He reached out his hand to the button display on my table and the display was whisked away into his magnetic clutches! This blew my face off! Sincerely! Well done sir. VERY well done indeed!
Okay, I've so very much more to share and so very little time to share it all. I'm off to see a wixard for another day of great comic funtimes. I hope to see many more of you there today!
